Policies and Procedures
Please be sure to read through all of our Enrichment Class Policies before registering your child. The enrichment classes are supported entirely by PTSA volunteers. It will save us lots of time if you could read all the policies and other important information on this page before sending out questions to us.

Parent Volunteer Requirement
Our PTSA insurance policy states that in order to run our programs, at least one PTSA member, who is approved by the school district to volunteer, must be present in each class. Learn the game of basketball from former WNBA player and Stanford Basketball legend, Val Whiting. This basketball program helps young female players acquire basketball, social and team building skills in a fun and empowering manner. The one-hour instructional sessions blend fundamental skills instruction with organized team competition with the purpose of providing an enjoyable after-school athletic event. Players benefit by improving their individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending while, at the same time, learning how to work within the framework of a team. The Val Whiting Hoop Academy provides girls with a chance to improve their general physical fitness, develop sportsmanship and athletic ability, and increase their knowledge of the game of basketball. Girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join.

Aspiring Authors

Do you love to tell stories? Do you desire the freedom to create? Do you have a passion for books? Do you want professional results? Then this adventure is for you! Using a unique two brain approach in a positive and friendly environment, students are inspired to write and "publish" their own books. This is a fun and challenging eight week adventure where each student will be an author, editor, and artist "hired" by the publishing company to create their masterpieces. As a company, we will assemble and bind the books creating professional results. New students will learn how to use the elements of story building to captivate their readers and enhance their illustrations to make their words come alive. Their books will be a treasure to cherish. In a culminating activity, we will have the last class with parents and friends to "Celebrate the Authors".

Note: Time will be given in class to write, however, professional results will require additional homework as each student continues to work to complete rough drafts, edits and revises for final drafts. Kids who take the course should like to express ideas in writing and are eager to work on lots and lots of writing. Please note as with all enrichment classes, there will be no refund by PTSA after registration deadline.

Bestselling Authors (PrerequisitesAspiring Authors class)

This course is for students who have completed the Aspiring Authors course. Our Aspiring Authors have learned the elements of story writing and book creation and had a taste of editing.  But to be an author who wants to create a bestseller one must be able to critically look at their work and practice how to create compelling and memorable stories which captivate audiences.

Authors will learn more great writing tips and master their editing skills. Once their masterpiece is transformed, the authors will learn additional illustration techniques to create a bestselling book. In a culminating activity, we will have a "Celebration of the Authors" for family and friends.

Note: Time will be given in class to write, however, professional results will require additional homework as each student continues to work to complete rough drafts, edits and revises for final drafts.
