Redmond Elementary PTSA Votes to Oppose Initiatives 2109 and 2117

Redmond Elementary PTSA Votes to Oppose Initiatives 2109 and 2117

Initiative 2109 would repeal the capital gains tax, a vital funding source for public education and school construction. Repealing this tax would significantly impact essential programs that support students, early learning, and school infrastructure.

Initiative 2117 would repeal the Climate Committee Act, a vital policy that funds projects around school infrastructure, clean energy, and student health and safety. Repealing it would hurt progress on climate goals and threaten the well-being of children.
For more information on the stance WSPTA, LWPTA, and Redmond Elementary PTA have taken, please see these FAQs.

The Redmond Elementary PTSA Votes to Endorse the November 2024 Levy

2024 Building Excellence Capital Construction Levy
November 5, 2024

The Redmond Elementary PTSA endorses the levy, and we hope you will vote “yes” this November to help ensure that every student in LWSD learns in safe, healthy, and modern schools!

Funding from the construction levy would allow LWSD to address Phase 2 of the Building Excellence Plan to ensure every student in our district has equitable access to safe and modern learning environments. Projects will include:

  • Rebuild and enlarge Alcott Elementary
  • Rebuild and enlarge Smith Elementary
  • Rebuild and enlarge Kamiakin Middle School
  • Rebuild and enlarge Evergreen Middle School
  • Upgrade and modernize the fieldhouse and community pool at Juanita High School

This levy will focus on aging facilities that are not fully meeting the needs of our students. The plan includes rebuilding and enlarging the four remaining schools that have not received upgrades or rebuilds since the start of the 1998 modernization program. This levy would provide funding for secure facilities with single entry points, up-to-date building systems and infrastructure, and other features to ensure students continue to learn in a safe environment that supports modern learning standards.
